Fenugreek Production Lower Than Last Year: New Fenugreek Seed Arrivals Begin in Gujarat
19-Feb-2026 07:12 PM
New Delhi. Reports indicate that fenugreek production in the country will be lower than last year, due to a 15-20 percent decrease in fenugreek sowing in Gujarat and Rajasthan, as well as in Madhya Pradesh, the major producing states, during the current season. It is noteworthy that fenugreek was sown on 1.28 lakh hectares in the country during 2024, which increased to 1.30 lakh hectares in 2025. However, due to producers not receiving a fair price for their produce in the last season, trade estimates indicate that the sowing area will decrease to approximately 1 lakh hectares.
Production Estimates
Experts say that fenugreek production in the country during 2024 was 17-18 lakh quintals, which increased to 18-19 lakh quintals in 2025. However, according to current reports, it is expected that fenugreek production in the country will be around 1.4-1.5 million quintals during the current season. Madhya Pradesh is estimated to produce 7-8 million quintals this year, while Rajasthan is expected to produce 4-5 million tons. Gujarat is expected to produce 2 lakh quintals.
Incoming
Currently, new fenugreek arrivals in Rajkot, Gujarat's main market, are 300-350 bags, and prices are quoting at ₹5,500-₹6,700 per quintal, depending on the quality. Prices for used crops are ₹4,400-₹5,700, and arrivals are 500-₹500 per quintal. Furthermore, the arrivals of used crops in Neemuch market in Madhya Pradesh are 1,200-1,300 bags, Jaora 700-₹800 bags, and Mandsaur 500-₹600 bags. The arrivals in Kota market of Rajasthan are 200/300 bags, and in Nokha, 400/500 bags. It is expected that after March 15th, new arrivals will begin in the markets of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, and the pressure of arrivals will begin in April.
Slow and Rise
Fenugreek prices will fluctuate between ₹200/300 per quintal until new arrivals arrive from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, as there are reports of low stocks at producing centers. However, this year's production will be low. Prices are likely to fall as the pressure of arrivals increases in April. Currently, the average quality fenugreek is being quoted at ₹5100/5700 per quintal in the markets of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Export
In the first eight months of the current 2025-26 season, fenugreek exports have increased by 15 percent in quantity and 6 percent in revenue.
