First advance production estimate of Kharif crops released in Maharashtra

Mumbai. The Agriculture Department of Maharashtra has released the first advance production estimate of crops for the Kharif season of 2024-25.
There is a possibility of increase in the production of some crops and decline in the production of some other crops during 2024-25 as compared to the last reviewed production of 2023-24 season.
According to the Agriculture Department, compared to last year, during the current Kharif season, the production of rice in Maharashtra is likely to decrease from 35.90 lakh tons to 34.39 lakh tons,
the production of Ragi is likely to fall from 1.13 lakh tons to 88 thousand tons and the production of other grains is likely to slip from 23 thousand tons to 17 thousand tons, while on the other hand,
the production of Jowar is expected to improve from 99 thousand tons to 1.23 lakh tons, the production of Bajra is expected to increase from 2.13 lakh tons to 4.17 lakh tons and the production of Maize is expected to jump from 14.41 lakh tons to 24.39 lakh tons. In this way, the total production of rice and coarse grains is expected to increase from 54.78 lakh tons last year to 70.24 lakh tons this time.
The total production of pulses crops is also expected to jump from 12.32 lakh tons last year to 16.47 lakh tons this time. Under this, the production of Tuvar is expected to increase from 10.08 lakh tons to 11.90 lakh tons,
the production of moong is expected to jump from 73 thousand tons to 142 lakh tons, the production of Urad is expected to jump from 1.03 lakh tons to 2.40 lakh tons and the production of other pulses is expected to increase from 47 thousand tons to 74 thousand tons. In this way,
the gross production of food grains including rice, coarse grains and pulses is expected to increase from 67.09 lakh tons to 86.71 lakh tons.
The production of oilseed crops is also expected to increase from 68.28 lakh tons to 75.35 lakh tons. Under this, the production of soybean is expected to jump from 66.68 lakh tons to 73.27 lakh tons,
the production of groundnut is expected to increase from 1.56 lakh tons to 2.00 lakh tons and the production of sunflower is expected to increase from 430 lakh tons to 4400 tons. Some other oilseed crops including nigerseed and sesame are also produced in small quantities in Maharashtra.
Under commercial or industrial crops, sugarcane production in the state is expected to decline from 11.26 crore tonnes to 10.70 crore tonnes while cotton production is expected to jump from 89.18 lakh bales to 101.40 lakh bales.
