Good increase in the area of coarse grains led by maize

New Delhi. In comparison to last year, a good increase is being seen in the sowing area of coarse grains including Shri Ann during the current Kharif season.

According to official figures, the production area of maize has jumped 6 lakh hectares from 81.25 lakh hectares last year to 87.25 lakh hectares this time.

This time the area of maize has increased in almost all the major producing states of the country. The central government has increased its minimum support price (MSP) by 6.5 percent to Rs 2225 per quintal. The condition of the crop is said to be satisfactory.
The total production area of coarse grains including Shri Ann has increased by 8 lakh hectares from 177.50 lakh hectares last year to 185.50 lakh hectares this time.
Under this, the sowing area of sorghum has increased from 13.85 lakh hectares to 14.95 lakh hectares,
area of ragi has increased from 7.65 lakh hectares to 9.15 lakh hectares and small millets area has improved from 4.80 lakh hectares to 5.35 lakh hectares, but the production area of millet has decreased from 70 lakh hectares to 68.85 lakh hectares.
The sowing of coarse grains has reached its final stage. Due to good monsoon rains in the major producing states, the crops are growing satisfactorily.
