Ahmedabad. The Gujarat government has decided to procure pigeon pea (tur dal) from farmers in the state at a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 8,000 per quintal during the current Kharif marketing season. Gujarat's Agriculture Minister stated that the procurement of tur dal from farmers will be done at the MSP announced by the central government, providing immediate relief to producers.

The registration process for farmers for this procurement began on December 22, 2025.  Government procurement of tur dal has also commenced to ensure ease and transparency in the entire process. This move by the government will provide relief to the state's farmers.

The Agriculture Minister described this as a significant step towards protecting the interests of the state's farmers and increasing their income, stating that tur dal producers will receive a fair and remunerative price and will be protected from the adverse effects of market fluctuations. The wholesale market price of tur dal had fallen below the MSP.

The harvesting of the new tur dal crop has begun in Gujarat, and the early start of government procurement will prevent farmers from being forced to sell their produce at distress prices.

Although Gujarat does not produce as much tur dal as Maharashtra and Karnataka, it is still among the important producing states. Approval for the procurement of tur dal has already been received from the central government. Tur dal is considered a leading pulse crop of the Kharif season in Gujarat.
