Green pea prices rise in Canada amid better business

Regina. Due to limited arrival and better lifting in the markets of western Canada, the price of green peas and maple peas rose a bit and sharply yesterday.
The price of green peas has increased to $ 15 per bushel with a maximum of 3 percent. Similarly, depending on the quality and place, the price of maple peas has increased to between $ 17 and $ 20 per bushel.
The scenario of green peas looks better as strong demand is being seen in it. According to trade analysts, the fluctuations in pea prices in Canada during the coming months will largely depend on the production during the Rabi season in India.
The Government of India has extended the period of duty-free import of yellow peas till 31 December 2024, but till now no decision has been taken regarding the import of green peas or maple peas, so the exporters of Canada are in a dilemma.
Pea sowing is going to start soon in India and its next new crop will start coming from the early months (quarter) of 2025. At present, import of yellow peas is going on there.
Its price in Canada is between $ 9.50-10.00 per bushel. Canada is facing tough challenge and competition from Russia in major pea importing countries like India and China and will have to face it in future as the inclination of these two Asian countries is increasing rapidly towards Russia instead of Canada.
To face the competition from Russia, Canada will have to keep the export offer price of its yellow peas at a competitive level. Peas have also been produced well in America.
