Heavy rains forecast in widespread areas of South India

Thiruvananthapuram. Predicting widespread heavy rains in the southern states of the country from October 16-17, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has started keeping a close watch on the monsoon depression forming over the Bay of Bengal.
The southwest monsoon will depart from the land part of the country by October 16 and will move over the central western Arabian Sea and reach near the Oman coast.
The Meteorological Department has predicted very heavy rains at some places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam as well as South Interior Karnataka, while heavy rains have also been predicted in other areas.
Earlier, during the 9 hours before the evening of October 14, coastal Andhra Pradesh (Kavali) and Yanam received very heavy rains, while normal rainfall was recorded in Nellore.
Other areas also received varying degrees of rainfall including Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Yanam, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Mahi.
The sky is cloudy in many areas, due to which heavy rains are expected in South Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, South Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
The places where rain is more likely include Miryalaguda, Kurnool, Bellary, Shivamogga, Nellore, Angola Chennai, Ambur, Mysore and Kozhikode. Light to moderate clouds are seen in Mysore, Bangalore, Tirupati.
After the departure of the Southwest Monsoon, the way has been cleared for the arrival of the Northeast Monsoon. This monsoon brings a lot of rain in South India during the winter season.
