New Delhi. Encouraged by the good increase in Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) and timely payment of dues, Indian farmers have once again made a successful attempt to increase the production area of sugarcane.
This time the farmers are also getting the support of good rains of the southwest monsoon and the condition of the crop is said to be good. Due to the increase in sowing area and favorable weather-rainfall conditions, sugarcane production is expected to increase, which will enable sugar mills to get more raw material.
According to official data, during the current year, till July 15, the production area of sugarcane at the national level increased to 57.68 lakh hectares, which is 82 thousand hectares more than the sowing area of 56.86 lakh hectares during the same period of the year 2023. Earlier, the area of sugarcane was recorded at 53.31 lakh hectares in the year 2022 and 53.70 lakh hectares in the year 2021.
This clearly indicates that the enthusiasm and interest of farmers in sugarcane cultivation is not only intact but also increasing.
The three major sugarcane producing states include Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka. Maharashtra and Karnataka have received very good monsoon rains this time, due to which the average yield rate of sugarcane and the average recovery rate of sugar from sugarcane are expected to improve.
As far as the most important sugarcane producing state - Uttar Pradesh is concerned, there has been relatively less rainfall and severe floods are also being witnessed in many areas because a lot of water has been released into various rivers from Nepal.
This may cause some damage to the crop. Other major sugarcane producing states include Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Uttarakhand etc. The new crushing season will start from October.
