India Begins Seeding of Summer Pulses
★ Seeding of summer crops has commenced across India.
★ As of February 13, pulses have been sown on 58,000 hectares, higher than 50,000 hectares at the same time last year, though still below the five-year average of 64,300 hectares. So far, about 3% of the total intended pulses area has been covered.
★ Green gram (moong) has been sown on 44,000 hectares, unchanged from last year.
★ Area under black gram (urad) has doubled to 10,000 hectares from 5,000 hectares a year ago. Sowing of other pulses stands at 4,000 hectares, compared to 1,000 hectares last year.
