India Tur (Pigeon Pea) Production, Demand and Stock Situation Report 2025-26
★ According to our assessment, India’s tur (pigeon pea) production in 2025-26 is expected to decline to around 30 lakh tons, compared to 35 lakh tons in the previous year. This year, heavy rains and adverse weather conditions have caused significant crop damage, resulting in a noticeable drop in yields.
★ The total supply in the country is estimated at around 50.71 lakh tons, while consumption is expected to reach about 46 lakh tons. Imports are likely to remain around 12 lakh tons, similar to last year’s level.
★ In 2024-25, the ending stock stood at 8.71 lakh tons, whereas this year it is expected to fall sharply to only 4.51 lakh tons, indicating a potential shortage in market availability.
~~~~~~
Key Highlights
* Heavy rainfall has severely damaged the tur crop.
* Domestic supply is expected to remain limited due to lower production.
* Sharp decline in ending stocks may put pressure on the market.
* Imports are expected to remain steady.
~~~~~~~~
Market Outlook
★ Due to lower production and shrinking stocks, tur dal prices are likely to rise from March 2026 onwards.
★ We believe that if weather conditions do not normalize, or if there is any delay in imports, prices may witness a sharp upward trend.
