India’s Rapeseed Acreage Likely to Reach Record Levels
★ Favorable weather, strong Chinese demand for rapeseed meal, and higher prices during the sowing period are expected to drive a significant increase in acreage.
★ So far, farmers have sown around 4.17 million hectares of rapeseed, which is 13.5% higher than last year, and the total area is expected to rise by 7–8%. Strong domestic demand for rapeseed oil and record exports to China have further strengthened the crop’s outlook.
★ After China imposed a 100% import tariff on Canadian rapeseed products, Chinese buyers shifted to India. Between April and September 2025, China imported 488,168 metric tons of rapeseed meal from India — nearly eight times higher than last year’s levels.
★ Overall, strong Chinese demand, favorable rainfall, and the recent MSP hike are expected to push India’s rapeseed acreage to record highs this year.
