Indonesia's Palm Oil Exports Decline
Jakarta: Indonesia recorded a sharp decline in its palm oil exports at the beginning of 2025.
In January 2025, Indonesia’s crude palm oil (CPO) and its products' exports fell by 24.1% to $1.44 billion, down from $1.89 billion in December 2024.
Compared to January 2024, when exports stood at $1.72 billion, this marks a 16.68% year-on-year decline.
In January 2024, Indonesia exported 2.06 million tons of palm oil, which declined to 1.65 million tons in December 2024 and further dropped to 1.27 million tons in January 2025.
Major Export Reductions by Country:
India: Exports dropped 43.65% to just 59,500 tons, compared to 430,000 tons in January 2024.
Pakistan: Exports declined 52.92% to 176,100 tons.
China: The most significant drop of 76.93%, reducing exports to just 39,600 tons.
Reasons for Declining Exports:
Increased domestic consumption due to Indonesia’s B40 biodiesel policy.
Upcoming B50 mandate, which will further boost domestic palm oil consumption.
