International Cotton Market
In ICE cotton futures, nearby contracts closed Friday’s session down 89 to 119 points. The December contract was down 187 points for the week. The US dollar index dropped \$1.318 to 98.425, while crude oil futures were down \$2.09 per barrel. According to CFTC data, as of July 29, spec funds added 482 contracts to their net short position in cotton futures and options, taking the total to 40,361 contracts. The Seam reported sales of 176 bales on Thursday at an average price of 60.50 cents per pound. On July 31, the Cotlook A Index was down 25 points at 77.95 cents. ICE certified cotton stocks were steady at 21,617 bales on July 31. USDA’s Adjusted World Price (AWP) fell 43 points to 54.52 cents per pound on Thursday afternoon.
