Export inspection data showed wheat shipments for the week ending May 15 totaled 423,785 metric tons (15.57 million bushels). This is 4.59% higher than the previous week and 85.06% more than the same week last year. Japan was the top destination with 123,562 metric tons, followed by Mexico with 72,551 metric tons. Since June 1, total marketing year exports have reached 20.702 million metric tons (760.7 million bushels), which is 15.69% higher than the same period last year.
Weekly crop progress data indicated that 82% of the spring wheat crop has been planted, well ahead of the 65% average. Emergence is at 45%, compared to the normal 34%. Winter wheat is 64% headed, 6 percentage points ahead of average. Crop condition declined by 2%, now rated at 52% good to excellent, with the Brugler500 index dropping by 2 points to 336.
South Korean mills purchased 50,000 metric tons of U.S. wheat overnight, and Saudi Arabia purchased 621,000 metric tons through a tender.
