Mumbai. In the second annual edition of Global Turmeric Conference held in Mumbai last week, various measures to formulate a new strategy to start the next phase of progress in the turmeric ecosystem and to increase the export of this yellow spice were discussed in detail.
This conference was organized by NCDEX Institute of Commodity Market and Research in which more than 200 delegates participated. This included Farmer Producers Organization (FPO), traders, processors, exporters, researchers and agricultural scientists etc.
Addressing the conference, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra said that India is the largest producer, consumer and exporter of spices in the world and Maharashtra is a leading producer state of turmeric.
With the help of a research center, the production of turmeric in the state had increased to new record levels.
According to the Chief Minister, in accordance with the guidelines of the Center, the Maharashtra Government is committed to provide all the necessary support and encouragement to the producers and entrepreneurs in their efforts.
A speaker said that although the price of turmeric remained stable between 5000-5500 rupees for the last decade, but due to the efforts of the central and state governments, it has now jumped to 13,500-15,000 rupees.
There has been a good increase in the production of turmeric due to the support of all the concerned parties, but there is a need to increase its production further to meet the increasing demand in the domestic and global market.
A strategy should be made for this. There is immense potential to increase the export of turmeric from India, but for this, it is necessary to have sufficient domestic stock.
Turmeric producers must get a profitable and attractive price for their goods so that they get an incentive to increase production.
