Most pulses selling below MSP
★ At present, the prices of most pulses in key mandis across the country are ruling below the Minimum Support Price (MSP). According to iGrain India, compared to the MSPs announced for the 2025–26 Kharif and Rabi seasons, only chana (gram) is trading slightly above MSP, while all other major pulses are priced lower.
★ Chana has an MSP of ₹5,650 per quintal, while in Bikaner (Rajasthan), the mandi price is ₹6,000 — ₹350 higher than MSP.
★ Urad is trading at ₹7,000 in Latur (Maharashtra), compared to its MSP of ₹7,800 — ₹800 lower.
★ Pigeon pea (tur/arhar) is priced at ₹6,600 in Latur mandi, against an MSP of ₹8,000 — showing a sharp fall of ₹1,400.
★ Moong is being sold at ₹7,100 in Jodhpur (Rajasthan), while its MSP is ₹8,768 — a drop of ₹1,668.
★ Masoor (lentil) is priced at ₹6,600 in Ashok Nagar (Madhya Pradesh), against an MSP of ₹6,700 — ₹100 below MSP.
★ Due to these lower prices, farmers have shown reduced interest in pulses during the ongoing Kharif sowing season, with a noticeable decline in the sowing of tur and urad.
★ If this price trend continues, it could also impact the Rabi season sowing of chana, lentil, and peas. Much will depend on the price scenario at the time of Rabi planting.
