★ In 2020–21, Australia produced 0.853 million tonnes of lentils, which increased to 1.707 million tonnes in 2025–26. Production in Victoria jumped from 0.45 million tonnes to 0.75 million tonnes, while South Australia’s output rose from 0.38 million tonnes to 0.845 million tonnes.
★ A record lentil crop is expected in Australia this year.
★ Canada and Russia are also seeing good lentil production, increasing global availability. However, Turkey’s output has been weak this year.
★ India also reported strong lentil production last season, which led to lower import demand this year.
★ With higher global supplies, international market prices are likely to remain under pressure.
★ In India, lentil stocks are gradually declining, which could support higher prices in the future.
