News Capsule: Canada: Strong Performance in Pea and Lentil Exports – CGC
★ According to the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC), 98,900 metric tons of peas were loaded for export in August through licensed terminals and primary elevators that are required to report all grain movements.
★ The CGC data does not include exports from non-reporting locations. It is important to note that CGC data may not match official export statistics. CGC records the product when it is loaded onto ships, while Statistics Canada bases its figures on the bill of lading date.
★ Pea shipments in August were significantly higher compared to 17,800 MT in July and 10,900 MT in the same month last year. Of the total peas loaded for export in August, 96,400 MT went through Vancouver terminals and 2,500 MT were shipped directly from Prairie elevators to other North American destinations.
★ In addition, 24,100 metric tons of lentils were loaded for export in August. Only 2,700 MT were exported in the same month last year, while this is lower than the 41,200 MT shipped in July. Of the lentils exported in August, 22,600 MT moved through Vancouver, and 1,500 MT were shipped directly from Prairie elevators to North American destinations.
