News Capsule: Cardamom News Update: Prices Surge in 2025; Positive Signals for 2026
★ The year 2025 proved highly favourable for Indian cardamom growers. Supported by a good monsoon and conducive weather, output improved while market prices stayed firm above ₹2,400 per kg throughout the year. Low carry-over stocks, coupled with strong domestic consumption and export demand, helped sustain the rally.
★ Crop losses in Guatemala over the past two years provided a direct advantage to Indian cardamom, strengthening India’s position in the global market. In Kerala, plantations in key producing areas such as Idukki remained in good condition.

2026 Outlook
★ The outlook for 2026 remains positive. Expectations of favourable South-West and North-East monsoons are likely to support production. India’s output is estimated at 30,000–35,000 tonnes, while Guatemala may produce around 20,000 tonnes. If both countries record good harvests, prices could soften to the ₹1,800–2,000 per kg range.
★ Demand from the Middle East and Europe is expected to stay strong. Additionally, the removal of additional duties by the United States on cardamom and several agricultural products is likely to enhance the competitiveness of Indian spices in the US market.
★ Overall, the cardamom market in 2026 is expected to remain moderately bullish to stable, though weather conditions and global supply-demand dynamics may continue to cause volatility.
