News Capsule: CCI cotton procurement
★ CCI has procured 5.35 million bales of cotton, which is 18% higher than last year. The procurement started in October and may continue till March.
★ During the same period last year, CCI had procured 4.6 million bales of cotton.
★ State-wise procurement includes 2.04 million bales in Telangana, 1.2 million bales in Maharashtra, 0.52 million bales in Gujarat, and 0.5 million bales in Karnataka.
★ According to CAI, cotton production this year is estimated at 30.9 million bales, compared with 31.2 million bales last year.
★ In the first two months of the current season, cotton production was 7.0 million bales, consumption 4.84 million bales, imports 1.8 million bales, and exports 0.3 million bales.
