News Capsule: CCI to Begin Cotton Procurement in Telangana from October 22
★ The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) will start purchasing cotton in Telangana from October 22.
★ The agency is estimated to procure around 2.4 million tonnes of cotton this season.
★ Earlier this year, several ginning mills, including those in Warangal district, did not participate in the tenders issued by the agency. They had raised objections to new regulations such as lint percentage, bid allocation, slot booking, and regional mapping.
★ As the situation worsened, the state agriculture minister intervened and held several rounds of meetings with the central government. It was agreed that the lint percentage would be revised every 15 days based on prevailing market conditions.
★ Around 330 ginning mills across the state will participate in cotton procurement this year. Farmers from districts such as Warangal, Adilabad, Khammam, Nalgonda, Sangareddy, and Nagarkurnool will be able to sell their produce at these centers.
