News Capsule: Government Procurement Supports Tur Prices in Maharashtra
★ Government procurement of tur (pigeon pea) has begun in Maharashtra, while Karnataka is also continuing purchases at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). The MSP for tur has been fixed at ₹8,000 per quintal, whereas current mandi prices are ruling below this level.
★ With open market prices lower than MSP, farmers are increasingly turning to government procurement centres. This is expected to reduce arrival pressure in mandis.
★ Most mandis across Maharashtra and Karnataka reported a rise of ₹200–400 per quintal today.
★ According to I Grain India, as government procurement gathers pace, market supplies may tighten further, lending stronger support to prices. If procurement continues at the current pace, tur prices could see further upside in the coming days.
