News Capsule: India allows export of 50,000 metric tonnes of organic sugar per financial year
★ The Government of India has taken an important decision regarding the export of organic sugar. According to a notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), exports of organic sugar have been permitted up to a limit of 50,000 metric tonnes (MT) per financial year.
★ This decision has been taken as a partial modification of Notification No. 36/2023 dated October 18, 2023. Under the revised policy, organic sugar falling under HS Codes 1701 14 90 and 1701 99 90, which was earlier placed under the “Restricted” category, is now allowed for export with immediate effect. However, the permission is subject to an overall export ceiling of 50,000 MT per financial year.
★ The exports will be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023. In addition, the detailed modalities and procedures for these exports will be prescribed by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).
