News Capsule: India’s imports of Chinese soyoil surge
★ Weak domestic demand in China, combined with heavy soybean imports from South America and recently the US, has created a surplus of soyoil in the Chinese market.
★ In October, China exported a record 70,877 tonnes of soybean oil, most of it shipped to India. In the first 10 months of 2025, China’s soyoil exports reached 329,000 tonnes, nearly three times the volume exported in all of 2024.
★ While shipments from Brazil and Argentina take 50–60 days to reach India, Chinese soyoil arrives at India’s east coast in just 10–12 days. Chinese supplies are also USD 10–15 per tonne cheaper than South American oil.
★ So far in November, India has imported around 70,000 tonnes of soyoil from China, with another 12,000 tonnes expected by month-end.
★ China’s commercial soyoil stockpiles exceeded 1 million tonnes by mid-November — the highest level in seven years — reflecting a major domestic glut and pushing exporters to find new markets like India.
