News Capsule: India’s Oilmeal Exports Drop 42% in January
★ India’s oilmeal exports declined by 42.5% in January 2026, mainly due to a sharp fall of nearly 50% in soybean meal and rapeseed meal shipments.
★ Total exports in January 2026 stood at 260,000 tonnes, significantly lower than 452,000 tonnes in January 2025. Soybean meal exports dropped to 132,000 tonnes (from 286,000 tonnes last year), while rapeseed meal exports fell to 64,782 tonnes (from 131,000 tonnes).
★ During April–January 2025-26, overall oilmeal exports declined by 10% to 3.235 million tonnes, compared to 3.603 million tonnes in the same period of 2024-25.
★ According to the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA), reduced rapeseed crushing in recent weeks has limited supplies until the arrival of the new crop. Meanwhile, rapeseed meal prices at Kandla have risen to ₹20,300 per tonne.
★ Major importers included South Korea, China, and Bangladesh. Exports to China recorded notable growth, while shipments to South Korea and Bangladesh declined.
★ Export trends in the coming months will largely depend on the arrival of the new crop and global demand conditions.
