News Capsule: India’s Sugar Export Data: All India Sugar Trade Association (AISTA)
★ In the 2024-25 marketing year, India exported a total of 7.75 lakh tonnes of sugar, comprising 6.13 lakh tonnes of white sugar, 1.04 lakh tonnes of refined sugar, and 33,338 tonnes of raw sugar.
★ The major export destinations were Djibouti (1.46 lakh tonnes), Somalia (1.35 lakh tonnes), Sri Lanka (1.34 lakh tonnes), and Afghanistan (75,533 tonnes).
★ AISTA reported actual exports of 7.75 lakh tonnes against the estimated 8 lakh tonnes, and has urged the government to announce the export quota for 2025-26 at the earliest.
★ For 2024-25, the government had approved the export of 10 lakh tonnes of sugar, but the target could not be met due to weak international prices.
★ For the upcoming season, ISMA has sought approval to export 20 lakh tonnes of sugar.
