News Capsule: Kharif 2025: Groundnut production rises, soybean and total oilseeds estimates fall
★ The first advance production estimates for Kharif 2025–26, released by the central government, indicate a mixed trend in oilseed crops. While groundnut production is expected to see a strong increase, estimates for soybean and total oilseeds are lower compared to last year.

Groundnut
2024–25: 104.12 lakh tonnes
2025–26 first estimate: 110.93 lakh tonnes
Change: +6.81 lakh tonnes
★ A significant rise in groundnut output is projected, attributed to better sowing conditions and favourable weather.

Soybean
2024–25: 152.68 lakh tonnes
2025–26 first estimate: 142.66 lakh tonnes
Change: –10.02 lakh tonnes
★ Soybean production is estimated to decline sharply, possibly due to irregular rainfall and disease outbreaks during the Kharif season.

Total oilseeds
2024–25: 280.23 lakh tonnes
2025–26 first estimate: 275.63 lakh tonnes
Change: –4.60 lakh tonnes
