★ Maharashtra sugar output has recorded a sharp rise in the ongoing 2025–26 season. As per the state sugar commissionerate, production so far has increased by 58% year-on-year to 44.8 lakh tonnes, supported by higher sugarcane availability and improved recovery.
★ Sugar mills across the state have crushed about 515 lakh tonnes of sugarcane, compared with 333 lakh tonnes during the same period last year. The average sugar recovery rate has improved to 8.69% from 8.50% a year ago. At present, 193 sugar mills are operational in Maharashtra.
★ Crushing activity has remained strong in major cane-growing regions, with Kolhapur emerging as the best-performing district so far, reporting a recovery rate of 10.23%.
★ According to National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories, Maharashtra’s total sugar production for the full 2025–26 season is estimated at around 110 lakh tonnes, compared with 81 lakh tonnes in the previous season.
