News Capsule: November Sugar Sale Quota Reduced; Demand Normal After Festive Season, Prices May Rise
★ The government has fixed the domestic sugar sale quota for November 2025 at 20 lakh tonnes, lower than in the previous two years when it was 23.5 lakh tonnes in 2024 and 23 lakh tonnes in 2023.
★ With the festive season now over, market demand has returned to normal levels, while new sugar production is yet to reach its peak. In this scenario, the government has released a limited quota to maintain demand-supply balance.
★ From January to November 2025, the total allocated quota stands at 250 lakh tonnes — about 13 lakh tonnes less than the 263 lakh tonnes released during the same period in both 2024 and 2023.
★ Industry analysts believe that this reduction in quota may slightly tighten market supply, leading to a mild increase in domestic sugar prices in the near term.
