News Capsule: Tur Prices Likely to Stay Firm
★ Tur prices are expected to remain strong in the near term. Old-crop stocks are almost exhausted, while arrivals of the new kharif crop are still very limited.
★ Crop damage in key producing states such as Karnataka and Maharashtra has kept early arrivals minimal in most markets. Normally, the main arrivals of the new crop begin only after mid-December or in January. Until then, tight supply is likely to prevent any major fall in prices.
★ Expectations of government procurement of the new crop at the MSP of ₹8,000 per 100 kg are also providing support to the market.
★ Need-based buying by millers and traders is further helping prices stay firm.
★ Overall, low stocks, slow arrivals and hopes of government purchases may continue to support tur prices in the coming weeks.
