Oilseed production in Maharashtra is expected to increase to 75.35 lakh tonnes

Mumbai. In the current Kharif season in Maharashtra, the leading soybean producing state, there is a possibility of a good increase in the production of oilseed crops.

According to official data, during the Kharif marketing season of 2023-24, about 68.28 lakh tonnes of oilseed crops were produced in Maharashtra, which is estimated to increase by 7.07 lakh tonnes to 75.35 lakh tonnes in the current season of 2024-25.

Under this, especially the production of soybean is expected to jump from 66.68 lakh tonnes to 73.27 lakh tonnes and the production of groundnut is expected to improve from 1.56 lakh tonnes to 2.00 lakh tonnes.

During the Kharif season, mainly these two oilseed crops are cultivated in Maharashtra. Apart from this, sesame, sunflower, niger seed and some other oilseeds are also sown in a limited area there.

The state agriculture department has estimated the production of 2 thousand tonnes of sesame, 700 tonnes of niger seed, 4400 tonnes of sunflower and 700 tonnes of other oilseeds during the current Kharif season.
