Karachi. Pakistan is currently preparing to export 100,000 tons of long-grain rice to Bangladesh, signaling growing trade cooperation between the two countries.
Shipments of this rice will be timely and will be strictly monitored for quality. This move is expected to positively impact Pakistani agricultural exports and strengthen economic ties with Bangladesh.
Bangladesh frequently needs to import this vital food grain to ensure a stable domestic supply and availability of rice and to maintain stable prices.
It has traditionally preferred Indian rice but is now looking to increase its imports from Pakistan as well. However, importing large quantities of rice from Pakistan will require proper transportation and careful planning.
This is considered a good start for Pakistani rice exporters, as importing expensive rice from Pakistan instead of cheap rice from India will place an additional financial burden on the treasury, making it difficult to control inflation.
Commentators say that Pakistan has a significant exportable stock of rice, which could enable it to ship significant quantities to Bangladesh.
However, to meet India's tough challenge and competition, it will need to make special preparations regarding rice quality and price. If Pakistan exports this 100,000 tons of rice to Bangladesh at the right time, it could have a positive impact.
