Rajkot. Although peanut cultivation in Gujarat increased from 1.909 million hectares to 2.202 million hectares this year compared to last year, a leading industry organization, the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SOI), has predicted a decline in the average yield from 2,210 kg per hectare to 2,092 kg per hectare due to crop damage caused by adverse weather and natural disasters.

Based on this, the association has estimated peanut production in Gujarat for the 2025-26 Kharif season at approximately 4.607 million tons, almost equal to the production in the 2024-25 season.

According to the association, peanut production in Gujarat's Saurashtra division is expected to reach 3.601 million tons this year, while other regions are expected to produce 1.006 million tons. Interestingly, the state agriculture department has predicted peanut production in Gujarat at approximately 2.092 million tons.

Interestingly, the State Agriculture Department has estimated peanut production in Gujarat to jump to over 6 million tons, significantly higher than the Association's estimate.

According to the Association's report, Rajkot district is expected to produce the highest peanut production of 7.43 lakh tons, followed by Jamnagar with 6.33 lakh tons, Junagadh with 5.07 lakh tons, and Dwarka with 5.15 lakh tons.

Production in other districts of the state is expected to be less than 4 lakh tons each. Surendranagar district is expected to produce the lowest peanut production of 68 thousand tons.

Amreli, Kutch, and Banaskantha districts are expected to produce over 3 lakh tons each, while Porbandar district is projected to produce 2.13 lakh tons.

The arrival of new peanut stock in Gujarat's major markets, especially Rajkot, is expected to put pressure on prices. Farmers are forced to sell their produce at prices well below the minimum support price (MSP) and are waiting for government procurement to begin. Last year, Gujarat saw record government purchases of peanuts.
