Production area of ​​Kharif crops reached above 1096 lakh hectares

New Delhi. The latest data of the Union Agriculture Ministry shows that in the current year, till September 13, the total production area of ​​Kharif crops has increased to a height of 1076.65 lakh hectares, which is not only more than the sowing area of ​​1072.94 lakh hectares during the same period last year, but also more than the five-year average area of ​​1096 lakh hectares.

The area of ​​paddy, nutritious cereals, oilseeds and sugarcane has reached above the normal average area.

The main reason for the 2 percent increase in the production area of ​​Kharif crops during the current year compared to last year is believed to be the 8 percent surplus of monsoon rainfall.

According to the Agriculture Ministry, the production area of ​​paddy has increased by 4 percent from 393.57 lakh hectares last year to 410 lakh hectares this time, which is about 8.50 lakh hectares more than the normal average area of ​​401.55 lakh hectares.

Although the sowing area of ​​pulses crops has increased from 118.43 lakh hectares last year to 127.77 lakh hectares this time, but it is behind the normal average area of ​​136.02 lakh hectares.

In the category of pulses crops, the production area of ​​Arhar (Tuvar) jumped from 40.74 lakh hectares to 46.50 lakh hectares as compared to last year, but the area of ​​Urad decreased from 32.25 lakh hectares to 30.44 lakh hectares.

The area of ​​Moth was recorded at 10.53 lakh hectares. There has been a good increase in the sowing area of ​​moong.

The production area of ​​coarse grains and Shri grain increased by 3.5 percent as compared to last year and reached 189.67 lakh hectares this time.

Under this, especially the sowing area of ​​maize increased by 4.5 percent from 83.67 lakh hectares to 87.50 lakh hectares.

The production area of ​​oilseed crops has also improved by 1.5 percent from 190.37 lakh hectares last year to 193.32 lakh hectares this time.

Apart from this, there has been a good increase in the sowing area of ​​groundnut and soybean. The area of ​​soybean increased from 123.83 lakh hectares to 125.11 lakh hectares and the area of ​​groundnut jumped from 43.75 lakh hectares to 47.85 lakh hectares. But there has been a decline in the sowing area of ​​sesame and castor.
