Pulse stocks decline at three major ports

Ahmedabad. Stocks of yellow peas, red lentils, and desi chickpeas have declined slightly at the Kandla-Mundra and Hazira ports in the western state of Gujarat.
The total stock of these pulses, which stood at 689,624 tons on September 23rd, fell to 630,897 tons on October 6th. Yellow peas fell from 327,271 tons to 296,399 tons, red lentils from 77,756 tons to 70,962 tons, and desi chickpeas from 284,507 tons to 163,536 tons.
Yellow peas are primarily imported into India from Canada and Russia, red lentils from Canada and Australia, and desi chickpeas from Australia and Africa.
A customs duty of 10 percent each is applicable on lentils and chickpeas, while the import of yellow peas has been made duty-free till March 31, 2026.
According to available data, the stock of the above pulses at Mundra port decreased from 263,781 tonnes on September 23 to 229,604 tonnes on October 6.
This includes the stock of yellow peas decreasing from 117,693 tonnes to 100,245 tonnes, the stock of red lentils decreasing from 25,327 tonnes to 21,405 tonnes, and the stock of Desi gram decreasing from 120,761 tonnes to 107,954 tonnes.
Similarly, the total stock of these three pulses at Kandla port decreased from 353,279 tonnes to 333,950 tonnes. Under this, the stock of yellow peas decreased from 1,44,474 tonnes to 1,35,809 tonnes, the stock of red lentils dropped from 44,970 tonnes to 42,559 tonnes, and the stock of desi gram dropped from 1,63,836 tonnes to 1,55,582 tonnes.
There is no stock of desi gram at Hazira port, while the stock of yellow peas and red lentils decreased from 72,563 tonnes to 67,343 tonnes.
Under this, the stock of yellow peas fell from 65,104 tonnes to 60,345 tonnes, and the stock of red lentils dropped from 7460 tonnes to 6998 tonnes.
Previously, the total stock of these pulses at the three ports was recorded at 6,96,735 tonnes on September 15 and 7,51,773 tonnes on September 1. The import process is still ongoing.
