Vancouver. In Canada and America, pulses like peas, lentils and chickpeas are being harvested and generally the production is expected to be better but due to unseasonal rains, there is uncertainty about the quality of pulses and especially lentils.

Due to the preparation and harvesting of the new crop and the continued arrival in the markets, an atmosphere of softness is being created in the global market of peas. Buyers of major importing countries are currently showing less interest in buying peas due to the possibility of further fall in prices.

According to available data, harvesting of pea crop has been completed in about 16 percent area in Canada and 50 percent area in America, while its process is still going on.

As per the current production estimate, about 4.98 lakh tonnes of new pea stock has arrived in Canada, while the availability of 4.77 lakh tonnes of new peas has been estimated in America.

As far as lentils are concerned, the pace of harvesting and preparation of its new crop in the North American continent is much slower than usual, but despite this,

there is a lot of struggle to keep its market price stable. In Saskatchewan, Canada's most prominent agricultural producing province, more than 12 percent of the lentil crop has been harvested, while in an additional 11 percent area the crop has ripened and is ready for harvesting.

In the same period last year, harvesting and preparation of lentil crop was completed in about 50 percent of the area there.

The five-year average figure of lentil harvesting has been estimated at 56 percent. This clearly indicates that the pace of harvesting is slow this time.

But the pace is considered to be the slowest since 1992-93. If the quality of lentils is affected, the price of low quality goods may remain weak because producers and exporters may try to sell it at a discounted price. This may also affect Australia.
