Dodoma. The Grain and Other Higher Regulatory Authority, a subordinate body of the Ministry of Agriculture in the African country-Tanzania, has issued a public notice saying that the trading firms wishing to obtain export permit for shipment of gram and tur from the country will have to purchase these pulses through the exchange.
In the public notice issued by the authority on October 7, it has been said that in accordance with the marketing guidelines issued for the 2023-24 trading season of gram and pigeon pea (tuvar), all traders / exporters are informed that it will remain valid in the 2024-25 season as well. Under this, it is necessary to purchase specific commodities through the commodity exchange. There has been no change in this this time too.
Under the Marketing Guidelines, the export permit will be issued upon confirmation that the product (chickpeas and pigeon peas) has been traded through the Warehousing Receipt System on the Tanzania Mercantile Exchange (TMX). For products purchased outside this official system, exporters will have to ensure their participation in the TMX Commodity Exchange. There, at least 70 percent of the purchases should be made within the official TMX trading platform and only then the trader will be considered eligible for an export permit from COPRA. This direction of the authority has come into effect from 7 October 2024.
