Rabi Crop Area in Gujarat Lags Behind Last Year by 2 Lakh Hectares

Ahmedabad. Sowing of Rabi crops is continuing regularly in Gujarat, the western state of India, but the area sown is lagging behind last year's figures by approximately 2.07 lakh hectares. Data from the state agriculture department shows that the area under Rabi crops in Gujarat this year has reached 41.25 lakh hectares,
which is 2.07 lakh hectares less than the 43.32 lakh hectares sown during the same period last year and 89 percent of the normal average area of 46.44 lakh hectares. Since the sowing process is still underway, the total area under Rabi crops may exceed this average in the coming days.
According to official figures, compared to last year, during the current Rabi season in Gujarat, the area under wheat has increased from 12.00 lakh hectares to 12.16 lakh hectares,
the area under coarse grains has increased from 13.53 lakh hectares to 13.66 lakh hectares, and the area under oilseed crops has increased from 2.51 lakh hectares to 2.07 lakh hectares, while the area under pulses has decreased from 8.55 lakh hectares to 8.11 lakh hectares.
Among pulses, the area under gram has decreased from 7.87 lakh hectares to 7.64 lakh hectares, and the area under other pulses has also decreased from 67 thousand hectares to 44 thousand hectares.
However, among oilseed crops, the area under mustard has increased from 2.49 lakh hectares to 2.76 lakh hectares.
Among coarse grains, the area under sorghum has improved from 11 thousand hectares to 12 thousand hectares, but the area under maize has decreased from 1.26 lakh hectares to 1.24 lakh hectares.
In the category of spice crops, the area under cumin cultivation decreased from 442,238 hectares to 354,169 hectares, the area under coriander cultivation fell from 120,512 hectares to 112,333 hectares, and the area under fennel cultivation declined from 46,514 hectares to 43,470 hectares.
The area under isabgol cultivation also decreased from 18,018 hectares to 11,694 hectares. The area sown under other crops remained the same as or less than the previous year.
