New Delhi. High domestic market price may provide good incentive to farmers to increase sowing area of main crops like wheat, gram and mustard during the current Rabi season, while if its minimum support price is increased well, it will be an additional attraction for the producers.

The domestic market price of wheat and gram has been running above the minimum support price for a long time, while the prices of mustard have also increased in recent months.

Along with this, emphasis can also be given on increasing the area of lentil, but its price has increased less rapidly than other crops.

There is a heavy customs duty of 44 percent on the import of wheat, due to which it is not considered economically beneficial to import it from abroad.

Anyway, now the price of wheat has started strengthening in the global market. The mustard market may get support from the 20 percent increase in import duty on edible oils.

Although the government has allowed duty-free import of Desi gram, but there is not much stock of it in the global market right now.

As a result, it is being imported in less quantity. The government has a huge stock of lentils and yellow peas in the domestic sector, due to which its market price is not seeing much increase.

The enthusiasm and attraction of farmers towards wheat cultivation is expected to increase. Everyone's eyes are on the support price.
