Rajasthan’s Kharif Sowing Crosses 144 Lakh Hectares

Jaipur. The southwest monsoon has been generous to Rajasthan this year, bringing intermittent heavy rains since the last week of June. As a result, farmers have maintained a steady pace in Kharif crop sowing.
According to the latest data from the state agriculture department, the total sown area for Kharif crops in Rajasthan reached 144.39 lakh hectares by July 23, which is 10.58 lakh hectares more than the 133.81 lakh hectares recorded during the same period last year.
There has been an increase in the sowing area of nearly all major crops, except soybean. The area under paddy and coarse cereals rose from 56.19 lakh hectares to 60.19 lakh hectares.
Within this, paddy area grew from 2.41 to 2.90 lakh hectares, jowar from 5.97 to 6.40 lakh hectares, bajra (millet) from 38.44 to 41.38 lakh hectares, while maize slightly declined from 9.57 to 9.49 lakh hectares.
The pulses area also saw a significant jump from 29.28 lakh hectares to 34.10 lakh hectares. Moong acreage increased from 19.14 to 22.20 lakh hectares, moth from 6.65 to 8.27 lakh hectares, chola from 52,000 to 58,000 hectares, and tuvar from 3,000 to 13,000 hectares. However, black gram (urad) saw a marginal decrease from 2.93 to 2.92 lakh hectares.
Oilseed cultivation increased slightly from 20.68 to 20.84 lakh hectares. Sesame grew from 1.68 to 1.76 lakh hectares, groundnut from 8 to 9.24 lakh hectares, and castor from 13,000 to 22,000 hectares. On the other hand, soybean acreage declined from 10.87 to 9.62 lakh hectares.
Among cash and industrial crops, cotton area expanded from 5.02 to 6.27 lakh hectares and guar from 19.56 to 19.99 lakh hectares. Rajasthan continues to lead in the production of moong, cotton, and guar.
