Saskatoon. Despite less than ideal weather conditions and other challenges during the current year, overall agricultural production in Saskatchewan, Canada's leading agricultural province, is expected to reach a new record level. Saskatchewan is a major producer of wheat, canola, lentils, and peas.

According to the provincial Ministry of Agriculture, total production of grains, pulses, and oilseeds in Saskatchewan during the current year (2025) surged to a new record level of 41.9 million tonnes, 17.7 percent higher than the total production in 2024.

This figure is also 24 percent higher than the five-year average production. Harvesting of all crops has been completed.

It is noteworthy that some parts of the province experienced a lack of rain during the early stages of the growing season, while heavy rains occurred during the harvest period.

Despite this, canola production in the province surged to 12.2 million tonnes and lentil production increased to a record high of 2.9 million tonnes.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture report, in addition to canola and lentils, Saskatchewan also produced 12.7 million tonnes of spring wheat, 5.4 million tonnes of durum wheat, 3.5 million tonnes of barley, 1.8 million tonnes of peas, and 1.8 million tonnes of oats this year.

According to the ministry, lentil production in the province increased by a remarkable 87 percent compared to last year, while canola production increased by 16.7 percent. Barley production increased by 16 percent, durum wheat by 8.5 percent, and spring wheat production by 5.3 percent.

Saskatchewan has set a target of increasing total agricultural production to 45 million tonnes by 2030. Saskatchewan province exports its agricultural products to more than 160 countries worldwide, including India. Lentils and yellow peas are among the products imported by India from Saskatchewan.
