SEA Kharif Crop Survey 2025: The Final Day Reveals the Real Picture!
★ The Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA) team has been on the ground in the Saurashtra region for the past three days, conducting a detailed assessment of the groundnut crop. The survey was led by Vinod Patel (S.K. Industry), Rajesh Patel (GGN Research), and Dr. B.V. Mehta (Executive Director, SEA), along with over 20 members.
★ In the previous year (2024–25), Gujarat’s groundnut production was initially estimated at 42.2 lakh metric tonnes (MT). However, after revising availability and processing data, the figure was updated to 46 lakh MT—around 10% higher than the preliminary estimate.
★ For the current year (2025–26), the area under groundnut cultivation has increased by about 3 lakh hectares. However, productivity has declined—from 2,210 kg per hectare last year to 2,092 kg per hectare this season.
★ This drop is mainly attributed to a dry spell from mid-July to mid-August, followed by excessive rainfall, which adversely affected yields.
★ As a result, despite the expansion in acreage, Gujarat’s groundnut production for 2025–26 is estimated to remain around 46 lakh MT—at par with last year’s output.
★ In short, the gain in cultivated area has been offset by reduced productivity, keeping the overall production stable.
