Mumbai. Despite sufficient stock and competitive prices, India's cumin exports are performing poorly. However, a significant increase in the shipment of other spices has easily compensated for this decline, resulting in an overall improvement in total spice exports. Exports of small cardamom are witnessing a tremendous surge.
According to the Spices Board data, the total export of spices and spice products from India increased to 10,66,821 tonnes during the first seven months of the current financial year, i.e., April-October 2025, which is 14 percent higher than the 9,39,577 tonnes shipped during the same months of 2024.
This clearly indicates that despite various challenges and competition, the demand, consumption, and popularity of Indian spices are rapidly increasing in the international market.
During the period under review, although cumin exports decreased by 13 percent from 1,46,558 tonnes to 1,26,916 tonnes and fennel exports plummeted by 65 percent from 59,831 tonnes to 20,850 tonnes,
on the other hand, small cardamom exports surged by 86 percent from 3663 tonnes to 6827 tonnes and garlic exports increased by 31 percent from 22,028 tonnes to 28,758 tonnes.
In addition, during the period under review, turmeric exports improved from 1,08,830 tonnes to 1,11,117 tonnes, coriander exports increased from 34,365 tonnes to 37,546 tonnes, other seed spice shipments increased from 21,965 tonnes to 25,796 tonnes, and fenugreek exports improved from 25,167 tonnes to 27,696 tonnes.
In addition, a significant quantity of other spices and spice products, including red chili peppers, black pepper, nutmeg, mace, and large cardamom, as well as spice oils and oleoresins,
were also exported from the country. Within the spices category, red chili peppers are the most exported commodity from India, and they also generate the highest revenue.
