Sharp Drop in Copra and Coconut Oil Prices Due to Increased Supply

Kochi: Since hitting new record highs in July 2025, prices for coconut oil and copra have been on a steady downward trend. In Kerala, the price of coconut oil has dropped to ₹227 per kg, while the price of copra has fallen to ₹131 per kg.
The President of the Cochin Oil Merchants Association (COMA) states that the supply of whole coconuts has begun to rise rapidly in major producing regions. Meanwhile, some stockists in neighboring states are holding large inventories of copra in an attempt to create an artificial market shortage and drive up prices.
However, given the abundant supply and availability resulting from excellent production, a significant surge in copra and coconut oil prices appears unlikely.
Separately, in Tamil Nadu, the price of coconut oil has declined to ₹191.75 per kg, and the price of copra has fallen to ₹127 per kg. It is worth noting that in July 2025, coconut oil prices had surged to ₹393 per kg and copra prices had climbed to a record high of ₹261 per kg; the market has now largely stabilized.
