Significant Rise in Wheat Production and Stocks in India – USDA May 2025 Report
★ According to the latest WASDE report released by the USDA, India is expected to see a notable increase in wheat production, stocks, and consumption during the 2025-26 season.
★ The report estimates that wheat production in India will rise from 1132.9 lakh tonnes in 2024-25 to 1170 lakh tonnes in 2025-26 — an increase of 37.1 lakh tonnes. Additionally, the beginning stocks are projected to grow significantly from 75 to 120 lakh tonnes.
★ Domestic consumption is expected to rise from 1087.6 to 1125 lakh tonnes. After modest exports, the ending stocks for the season are projected to increase from 120 to 165 lakh tonnes.
★ With higher production and carryover stocks, wheat availability in India is likely to remain strong, helping stabilize domestic market prices in the coming year.
