Small cardamom prices almost stable due to improved arrival of new goods

Kochi. Despite the possibility of decline in production due to adverse weather and natural disasters and the demand of the festive season, there is no bullish trend in the price of small cardamom at the moment because the arrival of goods has started increasing in the auction centers, while the dealers of Dishawari are trying to buy it from the farmers. In an auction held last day, the price of cardamom fell from Rs 2364 per kg to Rs 2273 per kg.
This year the weather conditions in Kerala were uncertain, due to which the cardamom crop suffered a lot. Lack of pre-monsoon rains in March-May and high temperature affected the growth of the crop and then heavy rains, floods and landslides in July-August also damaged it. Overall, there is a possibility of a significant decline in cardamom production. Producers were expecting the price of small cardamom to rise to as high as Rs 3500 per kg due to poor production but now they are getting disappointed as the market has either remained stable or soft. Indian dealers are not showing the expected interest in buying cardamom due to which there is pressure on prices in the producing centres.
