For the week ending February 12, old crop soybean export sales totaled 798,216 MT. This was significantly higher than the previous week and 66.2% above the same week last year. China was the largest buyer at 415,500 MT, followed by Egypt with 226,900 MT and Japan with 87,100 MT. New crop sales were reported at 66,000 MT.
Soybean meal sales were recorded at 480,937 MT, exceeding trade estimates of 220,000–450,000 MT. Soybean oil sales came in at 11,134 MT, near the upper end of expectations ranging from net reductions of 10,000 MT to sales of 16,000 MT.
CFTC data as of February 17 showed managed money adding 40,463 contracts to their net long position, bringing the total to 163,611 contracts.
The US Supreme Court ruled on Friday that the President cannot use IEEPA for tariff purposes. Following the news, markets shifted into risk-off mode, potentially giving some leverage to China. Later, President Trump indicated he would impose a 10% blanket tariff for 150 days.
