New Delhi. The first advance estimate released by the Union Agriculture Ministry for domestic production of various crops for the 2025-26 Kharif season indicates that total oilseed production will decline compared to the 2024-25 season.

This suggests that soybean production is expected to decline by 1 million tonnes, while peanut production may increase by 6.80 lakh tonnes. Yields of other oilseeds will also fluctuate.

According to the first advance estimate, total Kharif oilseed crop production is expected to decline by 4.60 lakh tonnes from 280.23 lakh tonnes in 2024-25 to 275.63 lakh tonnes in 2025-26.

Under this scenario, soybean production is expected to decline from 15.268 million tons to 14.266 million tons, while peanut production is expected to increase by 6.81 million tons from 10.412 million tons to 11.093 million tons.

The Indore-based Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA) has estimated domestic soybean production to decline from 12.5 million tons last year to 10.5 million tons this year due to a significant decline in the area under cultivation and significant crop damage in the three top producing states – Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan – due to excess rainfall and waterlogging.

As for peanuts, there has been a significant increase in the area under cultivation, and the crop has suffered less damage due to floods and rain.

After the water receded from the fields, the crop condition improved in Gujarat and Rajasthan, the two major producing states.

Consequently, an increase in production is projected. However, the production figures appear to be somewhat higher.
