Buenos Aires. In Argentina, Brazil's neighboring country located in South America, soybean production is estimated to reach 490 lakh tonnes in the current season of 2024-25. Initially, production was expected to be around 535 lakh tonnes, but adverse weather conditions significantly impacted the crop.

In some areas, the crop had to be resown. During the critical growth phase, the weather remained hot and dry in many parts of Argentina, and a prolonged absence of good rainfall hindered crop development.

Later, when harvesting began, heavy rains caused waterlogging in the fields, making harvesting difficult and affecting the quality of the soybean grains.

Harvesting and crop preparation are still ongoing in the country. Some experts believe that actual production might not exceed 480 lakh tonnes, as crop conditions remain unsatisfactory in certain states.

Farmers are selling their produce in limited quantities, expecting better prices in the near future. As of last week, about 24 percent of the total estimated production had been sold, including pre-contracted quantities made before the harvest.

After Brazil and the United States, Argentina is the third-largest producer and exporter of soybean in the world. It is also the leading exporter of soyoil and soymeal. India imports most of its soybean oil from Argentina, along with sunflower oil.
