Spice Production Reaches 125.03 Lakh Tonnes

New Delhi. The Union Agriculture Ministry has released its third advance estimate for the production of spices and other horticultural crops for the 2024-25 season, indicating that domestic spice production improved from 124.84 lakh tonnes in the 2023-24 season to 125.03 lakh tonnes in the 2024-25 season.
This indicates a significant increase in the production of garlic, ginger, and turmeric, particularly in the 2024-25 season.
This is the Ministry of Agriculture's third advance production estimate, while the fourth and final estimate will be released in the coming months.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the total area under horticultural crops has increased by 4 lakh hectares from 290.86 lakh hectares in the 2023-24 season to 294.88 lakh hectares in the 2024-25 season, and gross production has jumped by 143.11 lakh tonnes from 3547.44 lakh tonnes to 3690.55 lakh tonnes. This includes the area under fruits, vegetables, and spices.
During the period under review, crop production increased by 5.12 percent, or 57.82 lakh tons, to 1187.60 lakh tons, and vegetable production increased by 4.09 percent, or 84.76 lakh tons, to 2156.84 lakh tons.
Banana, mango, guava, papaya, mandarin, and jackfruit contributed significantly to this category of crops.
Among vegetables, onion production jumped 26.88 percent from 242.67 lakh tons to 307.89 lakh tons, potato production improved by 1.85 percent to 581.08 lakh tons, and tomato production increased to 194.68 lakh tons.
The Central Government is encouraging the use of new technologies in horticultural crop cultivation to increase the average yield and grower income. High-yield improved seeds are also being distributed to farmers.
