Bhopal. A target has been set to purchase 46 lakh tonnes of paddy in Madhya Pradesh during the Kharif marketing season of 2024-25. It will be purchased from the farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP).

The Central Government has fixed the MSP of paddy at Rs 2300 per quintal for the general category and Rs 2320 per quintal for 'A' grade.

Farmers can get themselves registered till October 4, the process of which started in September itself. According to the information received, 1.95 lakh farmers have already been registered.

This time the state government has decided to allocate paddy stock to rice millers directly from the procurement centers for custom milling, which will save transportation expenses and storage costs.

The Minister of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection in Madhya Pradesh has directed the officials to keep reviewing the situation regularly to ensure uninterrupted purchase of paddy.

Last week, a meeting was held between the rice industry and the government in which various related issues were discussed in detail.

In this meeting, the government informed that it has been decided to purchase 46 lakh tonnes of paddy in the current Kharif marketing season and arrangements have been made to pay the price of paddy to the farmers soon.

Warehouse level centers will be opened to limit the transportation cost. According to official sources, the Central Government has fixed the deadline for paddy milling till June 2025 this time.

In view of this, the Madhya Pradesh government has decided to provide paddy to the millers directly from the purchase centers.

60 percent of the rice produced from the milling of the allotted paddy will be given to the Food Corporation of India in the central pool.

Rice millers urged the government to pay the pending dues of last year quickly and fix the level of rice production from paddy on the basis of moisture.
